Bio

Katie McDermott is a writer and English teacher from Navan ,County Meath. She has a Master’s degree in Creative Writing from Trinity College, Dublin. Her short stories have been published in Autonomy, Banshee Lit, The Queen’s Head and Literary Orphans, among others.

Her stories have been longlisted for the RTÉ/Penguin short story competition and the Over the Edge New Writers competition. She is currently working on a new novel called Micronation and intends to pursue publication for it.

In her writing, she likes to explore characters in moments of crisis, who are in prisons of their own making or are unable to escape their pasts. She likes to examine themes of identity and exploration and moments of rebellion and is influenced by folkore and magic realism. Her writing style is clear, sometimes lyrical and often humourous.
